About Us

The Longshed has been leased on a long-term basis to WRT by Woodbridge Town Council, and is the focal point of the Trust’s activities.

Welcome to the Longshed

Sae Wylfing Maritime Heritage Centre Skiff Building

The Longshed is a multi-purpose community resource in East Suffolk celebrating our outstanding maritime heritage and riverside environment. The Longshed is home to an exciting range of events and long-term projects, from boat-building and tapestry-making to festivals, exhibitions and performances. This vibrant waterside space enables people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to engage with local history and traditions, develop new practical skills, and shape our waterfront future.

We are normally open to visitors from 11.00-13.00 each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, On Saturdays and Sundays we are open from 10.00am till 3.00pm throughout the year.

 The Anglo-Saxon ship reconstruction in the Longshed is a unique project set up by our sister charity the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company.

Skiff Building

One of the first projects in the Longshed workshop was a 6-month community skiff-building project (running alongside but separate from the project to reconstruct the full-size replica of the Sutton Ship).
